Why Cameron Highlands Is the Perfect Home for BOH

April 29, 2025 pixlalsie No Comments

When you think of tea in Malaysia, BOH pops into mind. It is one of the most famous tea brands around and is grown in the cool, green hills of Cameron Highlands. But why there? What’s so special about Cameron Highlands that makes it the perfect place for tea? Let’s find out!

Cool Weather That Tea Loves

Cameron Highlands sits high up in the mountains, between 800 and 1,600 metres above sea level. Thanks to the height, the weather stays nice and cool all year. It usually stays between 14°C and 24°C. Tea plants do not like very hot weather, so the cool air helps them grow slowly. Slow-growing tea means richer flavours and a better smell. Yum!

Lots of Rain (But Not Too Much)

Tea plants need a good amount of water to stay healthy, and Cameron Highlands gets plenty of rain. It gets about 2,000 to 3,000 millimetres a year. Luckily, the rain is spread out nicely across the months, so there are no crazy floods or long dry spells. This steady rain keeps the tea bushes fresh and full of life.

Explore the Mossy Forest

The Mossy Forest is a magical place, perfect for a family adventure. Walk along misty paths and see trees covered in moss. It’s a beautiful and unique place that will excite both kids and adults.

Misty Mornings and Soft Sunshine

Most mornings in Cameron Highlands are cool and misty. When the sun comes out later, it is not too harsh. The mist and gentle sun help the leaves grow slowly and stay tender, just what you want for top-quality tea.

Fresh Air, Fresh Tea

Because Cameron Highlands is far from busy cities and factories, the air is clean. This means the tea leaves grow in a fresh and natural environment. No pollution, no bad stuff, just pure, healthy tea that tastes amazing.

Years of Love and Care

Finally, BOH also has generations of farmers who know exactly how to grow and care for the tea. With their skills and love for the craft, they make sure every cup of BOH is something special.

Sungei Palas Tea Garden

The Sungei Palas Tea Garden is perched high up in the hills, offering breathtaking views of lush green plantations. It is home to BOH’s iconic Visitor Centre, known for its striking modern architecture that appears to float over the tea fields. Here, you can enjoy a wide selection of BOH teas at the cosy café, take a guided tour to learn about the tea-making process, and shop for exclusive tea merchandise. Large glass windows and an open-air terrace allow visitors to soak in the sweeping views while sipping freshly brewed tea. It is the perfect spot to relax, take photos, and truly appreciate the beauty of tea cultivation.

BOH Tea Garden (Ringlet)

The BOH Tea Garden, located near Ringlet, is the oldest and largest of BOH’s plantations, covering over 465 hectares. This historic site houses BOH’s very first tea factory, built in the 1930s, where visitors can still see the traditional ‘Rotorvane’ tea processing system in action — a rare sight today. The journey to the tea centre takes you along scenic trails surrounded by rolling hills. Quaint colonial buildings, once used during the Malaysian Emergency, add a touch of history to the experience. Here, visitors can tour the working factory, enjoy a variety of teas and pastries at the BOH Café, shop for gifts, and even hike behind the factory trails to discover hidden mountain viewpoints.

The Perfect Match: BOH Tea and Cameron Highlands

Cameron Highlands provides an ideal environment for tea cultivation, with its cool climate, consistent rainfall, fertile soil, gentle sunlight, clean air, and the dedicated expertise of experienced farmers. No wonder BOH tastes so good!
